What you can expect

Into the red-walled medina
Your guide meets you at your accommodation and leads you into the historic medina — Marrakech’s UNESCO-listed old city, encircled by 11th-century ramparts. The narrow derbs open into unexpected spaces: carved wooden doors, zellige fountains, and courtyards glimpsed through half-open gates.
From the first steps, the pace is unhurried. The goal is not to cover everything, but to move at a rhythm that lets you notice what’s around you.
Bahia Palace: tiles, cedar, and silence
The Bahia Palace was built in the late 1800s for a powerful grand vizier who wanted to create the most beautiful palace of his era. You’ll walk through its succession of courtyards, gardens, and painted chambers — each room a showcase of Moroccan craftsmanship.
Your guide explains the stories behind the architecture: the intricate zellige tilework, the carved stucco, the painted cedar ceilings. There’s time to pause, photograph, and absorb the detail at your own pace.
Souks and artisan quarters
From the palace, you enter the souk districts — the centuries-old marketplaces where each lane has its specialty. Souk Semmarine is the main artery, branching into smaller alleys devoted to leatherwork, metalware, spices, and textiles.
Your guide reads the maze with ease, stopping at workshops where artisans shape copper, carve wood, or stitch babouches. You’ll pass through Rahba Kedima, the old spice square, where pyramids of cumin, saffron, and dried rosebuds fill burlap sacks. The approach is observation-first: there’s no pressure to shop, though your guide can offer bargaining tips if you choose to.
Le Jardin Secret: a hidden courtyard restored
Tucked into the Mouassine quarter, Le Jardin Secret is one of the medina’s most peaceful spaces. Originally a 16th-century Saadian palace, it was restored and opened to the public only a few years ago. Two gardens — one Islamic, one exotic — unfold around pools, pavilions, and tiled paths.
You’ll have time to wander, climb the tower for rooftop views across the medina and Atlas Mountains, and sit for mint tea if you wish. It’s a moment of calm before stepping back into the city’s energy.
Designed for depth, not overload
This is a half-day experience built around a few well-chosen stops rather than a checklist. The route avoids backtracking and heavy crowds where possible. Your guide adapts to your pace, answers questions, and shares local knowledge that brings the medina to life — from the meaning of geometric patterns to the social customs of the souks.

What is the difference between Private, Small Group, and Group tours?
All three formats follow the same itinerary. Private tours are just for your party, with full flexibility on pace and timing. Small Group tours include up to 8 guests with a shared guide. Group tours accommodate up to 17 guests. Private tours allow for more personalized attention; group tours offer a more social atmosphere and lower per-person pricing.
How much walking is involved?
The tour covers approximately 3–4 km over 4–5 hours, all on foot through the medina. The terrain includes cobblestones and uneven surfaces. The pace is relaxed with regular stops, but the tour is best suited for guests comfortable walking for extended periods. Comfortable flat shoes are essential.
Is this tour suitable for children?
Children aged 5 and above are welcome. The walking tour may be less engaging for very young children due to the duration and historical content. Private tours offer more flexibility to adjust the pace for families. Child pricing applies for ages 5–12.
What happens if it rains or weather is extreme?
The medina’s covered souks provide shelter from rain and sun on much of the route. In hot weather, we recommend morning departures. Your guide may adjust the itinerary order to avoid the warmest hours in exposed areas. The tour operates in all reasonable weather conditions.
Can I shop during the tour?
Yes. Your guide can point out reputable shops and offer bargaining tips, but there is no obligation to buy anything. Shopping time is flexible on private tours. On group tours, brief souk stops are included, though extensive personal shopping is best done independently after the tour.
What should I wear?
Modest dress is recommended for visiting cultural sites — shoulders and knees covered. Comfortable walking shoes are essential due to cobblestones and uneven ground. In summer, bring a hat and sunscreen; in winter, a light jacket is useful for shaded lanes.
