What you can expect

Before dawn — from the city to the launch site
Your morning begins with a pre-dawn pickup from your accommodation in Marrakech. The drive to the launch site north of the Palmeraie takes around 30 to 40 minutes, crossing quiet roads while the city is still asleep.
On arrival at the base camp, you are welcomed with Moroccan mint tea, coffee, and fresh pastries. There is time to settle in, warm up, and watch the crew prepare the balloon — a striking scene as the envelope slowly inflates against the dark sky.
Liftoff — sunrise from above
As the first light appears on the horizon, you step into the basket and lift gently off the ground. The silence is immediate. The balloon rises smoothly, carried by the morning air, and within minutes you are floating above the landscape with a clear view in every direction.
Below, the terrain unfolds: the Jbilet hills, the green line of the Oued Tensift valley, scattered rural douars still waking, and stretches of palm groves and farmland. On clear days, the High Atlas Mountains fill the southern horizon, their peaks catching the early sun in reds and golds.
The flight lasts around 40 to 60 minutes. Your pilot adjusts the altitude throughout, dipping low over villages and rising for wider panoramas. There is no wind — you move with it, so the ride feels calm and still.
Back on solid ground — breakfast in the open air
After landing, a short ceremony follows where your pilot presents each passenger with a flight certificate. From there, you walk to a traditional caidal tent set up nearby for a generous Berber breakfast.
The spread includes fresh breads, Moroccan pancakes, local honey and jams, eggs, olives, fresh orange juice, and mint tea — all served in the open air with the desert landscape around you. There is no rush. The morning is yours to enjoy.
Our approach — comfort, safety, and a good pace
We work exclusively with licensed balloon operators who hold Moroccan Civil Aviation Authority certification and have years of experience in this specific region. Flights are weather-dependent and only proceed when conditions are confirmed safe.
The experience is designed to return you to your accommodation in Marrakech by late morning, leaving the rest of the day free. Early wakeups are rewarded — this is one of the most quietly spectacular things you can do near Marrakech.

Good to know
Everything you need to know for a smooth and enjoyable experience.
How early do I need to wake up?
Pickup times depend on the season because flights are timed to coincide with sunrise. In summer, expect pickup around 5:00–5:30 AM. In winter, it is closer to 6:00–6:30 AM. Your exact pickup time is confirmed the evening before by your driver.
What happens if the weather is bad on my scheduled day?
Hot air balloon flights are entirely weather-dependent. If conditions are not safe for flying, the operator will either reschedule your flight to the next available morning or issue a full refund. We recommend booking this experience early in your stay so there is room to reschedule if needed.
What is the difference between Private, Small Group, and Group?
All three formats follow the same itinerary: sunrise flight, breakfast, and certificate. In the Group format, you share the balloon with other passengers (up to 16–20 in the basket). The Small Group option limits the basket to around 8 passengers for a more spacious feel. The Private format gives you a dedicated balloon, pilot, and ground crew for your group only — ideal for celebrations or couples wanting a more intimate experience.
Is the balloon ride safe for children or older travelers?
Children aged 5 and above can usually fly, subject to the pilot’s final decision. Children under 5 are generally not permitted. The flight is smooth and calm — there is no sensation of swinging or sudden movement. Older travelers in good general health typically enjoy the experience with no difficulty. You do stand for the duration of the flight inside a chest-height basket compartment.
What should I wear for the flight?
Dress in warm layers, even in summer — it is noticeably cooler at altitude, especially before sunrise. Closed, flat shoes are required for stepping in and out of the basket. Bring sunglasses and a hat for after landing. Avoid loose scarves or wide-brimmed hats that could catch the burner heat.
Will I be back in time to do other activities the same day?
Yes. The total experience takes approximately 4 to 5 hours, and you are typically back at your accommodation in Marrakech by 10:00–11:00 AM. This makes it easy to pair with an afternoon or evening activity such as a medina tour, cooking class, or Agafay sunset dinner.
