This is the plan

Check out the plan below to see what you’ll get up to with your local host. Feel free to personalize this offer with the host of your choice.

  • Marrakech departure

Transfer — Early morning pickup from your accommodation. You head south out of the city toward the High Atlas Mountains.

  • Tizi n’Tichka pass

Scenic drive / Photo stop — The road climbs through Berber villages and rocky switchbacks to the Tizi n’Tichka pass at 2,260 metres. You stop at the top for panoramic views across the Atlas range before descending toward the southern valleys.

  • Aït Ben Haddou

Guided walk — A local guide leads you through the UNESCO-listed ksar, explaining its layered architecture, trade-route history, and cinema connections. The walk is uphill on uneven ground and takes about an hour, with views from the top across the Ounila Valley.

  • Lunch near Aït Ben Haddou

Lunch stop — A sit-down Moroccan meal at a local restaurant near the ksar — salads, tagine, bread, and mint tea — with time to rest before continuing.

  • Ouarzazate — Taourirt Kasbah

Short visit — You visit the Taourirt Kasbah, a 19th-century Glaoui palace with decorated interiors and rooftop views. Nearby, the Atlas Film Studios are available as an optional self-guided visit at your own expense.

  • Return to Marrakech

Transfer — The return follows the same Atlas route in late-afternoon light. You arrive back at your accommodation by early evening.

Good to know

Everything you need to know for a smooth and enjoyable experience.

The drive is approximately 3.5 to 4 hours each way, depending on traffic and road conditions. The route crosses the Tizi n’Tichka pass at 2,260 metres, with winding mountain roads. The scenery is spectacular, and there are stops along the way, but this is a long day — plan accordingly.

Yes, children are welcome, though the day is long with significant driving time. The walk through Aït Ben Haddou involves uphill terrain on uneven ground, which may be tiring for very young children. Families with children over 6 generally manage well. Car seats can be arranged on request.

:

All three formats follow the same itinerary. Private gives you a dedicated vehicle and flexibility on pace and stops. Small Group is shared with up to 7 other travelers in a comfortable minivan with a fixed schedule. Group accommodates up to 17 travelers in a larger vehicle. Private is best for families or anyone who prefers a tailored rhythm.

Yes, a traditional Moroccan lunch is included — typically salads, tagine, bread, and mint tea — served at a local restaurant near Aït Ben Haddou. Vegetarian options are available. For specific allergies or dietary needs, let us know when booking and we will arrange accordingly.

Yes. The itinerary includes time in Ouarzazate where you can choose to visit the Atlas Film Studios on your own. Entry is approximately 80 MAD per person and is not included in the tour price. The guided studio tour takes about an hour. If you prefer to skip it, you can explore the area around the Taourirt Kasbah instead.

Wear comfortable walking shoes with good grip — the ksar has steep, uneven paths. Bring a warm layer for the Tizi n’Tichka pass, where temperatures can drop sharply, especially between November and March. South of the Atlas, it is typically warmer and drier than Marrakech. Sunscreen is essential year-round.
